EAR · HEARING · BALANCE

I’m not hearing well, my ear is ringing, or I feel dizzy.

Start with what you notice. You do not need to decide whether it is a hearing, ear or balance disorder before your consultation.

01 · IN YOUR WORDS

“I’m missing words.” · “There is ringing/buzzing.” · “The room spins.” · “My child may not be hearing.”

02 · WHAT YOUR ENT MAY CALL IT

Hearing loss · tinnitus · vertigo / balance disorder

03 · HOW IT MAY BE ASSESSED

ENT examination may be combined with audiology and vestibular assessment depending on the concern. Further tests are chosen from the clinical findings rather than as a fixed package.

04 · GO DEEPER WHEN YOU NEED TO

At specialist depth this pathway can extend into otology, neuro-otology, hearing rehabilitation, hearing aids, cochlear implant candidacy and surgical management where indicated.

PATIENT GUIDE

Why is my ear ringing?

Ringing or buzzing in the ear is commonly described as tinnitus. The useful starting point is not the label alone, but whether it is new or persistent, affects one or both ears, pulses with the heartbeat, or occurs with hearing change, dizziness or other ear symptoms.
