VOICE · SWALLOWING · AIRWAY

My voice has changed, swallowing is difficult, or breathing feels different.

Start with the change you notice; the clinical pathway follows from history and examination.

01 · IN YOUR WORDS

“My voice stays hoarse.” · “Food feels difficult to swallow.” · “Breathing is noisy or difficult.”

02 · WHAT YOUR ENT MAY CALL IT

Dysphonia · dysphagia · upper-airway concern

03 · HOW IT MAY BE ASSESSED

ENT assessment may include examination and endoscopic evaluation of the upper airway/larynx where appropriate. Further investigation depends on the findings.

04 · GO DEEPER WHEN YOU NEED TO

Specialist depth can include laryngology, airway procedures and swallowing-related management or surgery when indicated.

PATIENT GUIDE

When should a persistent voice, swallowing or breathing change be assessed?

A lasting voice change, difficulty swallowing or a change in breathing deserves assessment when it persists or is concerning. ENT evaluation helps identify whether the issue is arising from the larynx, upper airway or another related structure before treatment is planned.
