- AssessmentThroat examination, with a nasal endoscopy or X-ray to see the adenoids. A hearing test checks the ears when they feel blocked.
- TreatmentMedicines help mild cases and allergy. Adenotonsillectomy removes the tonsils and adenoids under general anaesthesia when they block breathing or infections keep returning; small tubes in the eardrums are added if fluid persists.
- RecoveryMost children return to a normal diet within about two weeks. Come back to hospital at once if there is any bleeding from the mouth or nose after surgery.

Is snoring in children normal?
Loud, regular snoring in a child is not normal and should be checked; enlarged tonsils and adenoids are a common cause.
How long is recovery after tonsil surgery?
Most children return to a normal diet within about two weeks. The team gives clear diet and pain-relief advice before discharge.
What should I watch for after surgery?
Any bleeding from the mouth or nose needs immediate return to hospital, day or night.
