- AssessmentThe ear is cleaned and examined under a microscope or endoscope. A hearing test measures the loss; a CT scan is added when disease may involve the bone behind the ear.
- TreatmentFirst the ear is kept dry and infection settled with drops. Tympanoplasty then repairs the eardrum with a graft of your own tissue, under a microscope or endoscope. If disease involves the mastoid bone, mastoid surgery is done at the same time.
- RecoveryThe ear is kept dry while it heals, and a hearing test at follow-up shows the result. The team explains each step before and after surgery.

What causes a hole in the eardrum? (कान के पर्दे में छेद)
Most often a long-standing middle-ear infection; sometimes an injury or a sudden pressure change.
Can a hole in the eardrum heal by itself?
Small or recent holes often heal on their own. Long-standing holes, especially with repeated discharge, usually need tympanoplasty.
What is the graft in tympanoplasty?
A thin piece of your own tissue, usually taken from near the ear, is used to rebuild the eardrum.
How long is the hospital stay?
Usually short. The team tells you before surgery how long to plan for and when you can return to work.
